Awarded by three universities with top-level teams in the field: Murcia, Lund, and Erlangen-Nürnberg, MULTICOM is the first master’s degree in the data science of human multimodal communication. This program focuses on the study of how the different modalities of communication (speech articulation, gesture, gaze, facial expression, prosody, and more) combine to make meaningful interaction possible.

Objectives

MULTICOM integrates the various disciplines needed to train a new community of interdisciplinary researchers and professionals in multimodal data science, prepared to recombine existing methods and to participate in the creation of new ones, to address central issues connecting multimodality with language and mind, learning, cognitive development, social interaction, statistics, computation, and technology.

Application

Application period to be determined.

Once the application period ends, the admissions committee will announce the list of accepted students.

Partnerships

MULTICOM associated partners are the academic world-leaders in multimodality. Numerous non-academic organizations in industry are expected to join, providing the opportunity to develop problem-oriented theses and training at companies of practically any suitable profile.

Professional Projects

Professional projects will take place at one of the non-academic partners, although stays at academic partners will also be possible, if the project develops problem-solving skills applicable to non-academic settings.

Student Profile

Significant backgrounds in language, communication, and cognition will be required before admission. The required English level is C1 CEFR or an equivalent score in an internationally recognised test. Proof of English proficiency will be required prior to admission.

Scholarships

Students without tuition waivers or fully self-funding will pay fees according to public prices established by agreement of the three beneficiaries and revised on a yearly basis. Our current fee estimation is 12000€/year. Criteria for admission and funding allocation will be based on merit and international diversity. Fully self-funded students will be required to show merit according to the same criteria as the students who apply for financial support.
