Universities
MULTICOM is co-awarded by three universities with top-level teams in the field: Murcia, Lund and FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg
University of Murcia
The Daedalus Lab is an interdisciplinary center for research and training on cognition, communication, and creativity. Its professors, postdocs funded by top-level programs, PhD students on some of the most competitive scholarships, and technical staff with long experience in multimodal data science all contribute to top-level publications and have attracted competitive grants, worth over 6 million euros in the last five years. Daedalus leads MULTIDATA, the European platform for video data in higher education, along with several national and regional research projects in multimodal data science. The Daedalus staff combine expertise in multimodal corpora, lab methods, and fieldwork.
UNIVERSITY OF MURCIA
The University of Murcia is a reference for Higher Education in southeast Spain. The University of Murcia is geared toward academic excellence and is a key player in the world of research with its 350 research groups, 4 research centers and teaching and innovation that cover all areas of knowledge.
Lund University
The Lund Humanities Lab is a cross-faculty research infrastructure at Lund University that supports experimental and multimodal studies of communication. It provides access to facilities such as eye-tracking, EEG/ERP, articulography, and acoustic studios, together with courses and training in methods, programming, and statistics. MA students in multimodal communication can use the lab for thesis projects, gaining practical experience in data collection, synchronization, and analysis. Experts from the lab have long experience in training multimodal scientists. They also produce numerous top-level publications and lead numerous grant projects attracting millions of funding for research into multimodality-related projects.
LUND UNIVERSITY
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is one of world’s top universities. It offers one of the broadest ranges of programmes and courses in Scandinavia, based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research.
FAU Erlangen–Nürnberg
FAU’s Chair of Big-Data Linguistics trains MA students to analyze corpus-scale and multimodal datasets using AI/ML. Research spans construction grammar, cognitive linguistics, and multimodal communication; students engage in data acquisition, annotation, HPC-supported analysis, and reproducible workflows. The chair has close collaboration with the Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center and with the Faculty of Computer Science. Big-Data Linguistics plays a key role in several EU, national, and regional grants, attracting millions in funding and producing multiple top-level publications.
