Universities

MULTICOM is co-awarded by three universities with top-level teams in the field: Murcia, Lund and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.

University of Murcia

The Daedalus Lab is an interdisciplinary research center focused on cognition, communication, and creativity. It brings together researchers from the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and Computer Science. Students receive solid training in multimodal communication, combining corpus analysis, experimental methods, and real-world data. Teaching and supervision are provided by experienced faculty, internationally funded postdoctoral researchers, and specialized technical staff. Daedalus hosts a strong and active community of PhD students working on cutting-edge research in multimodality. This makes the lab a particularly suitable environment for MA students considering an academic career. Daedalus also coordinates MULTIDATA, the European platform for video data in higher education, and leads several competitive research projects with international visibility.

UNIVERSITY OF MURCIA

The University of Murcia is a reference for Higher Education in southeast Spain. The University of Murcia is geared toward academic excellence and is a key player in the world of research with its 350 research groups, 4 research centers and teaching and innovation that cover all areas of knowledge.

Lund University

The Centre for Languages and Literature is Sweden’s largest academic environment for languages, literature, and cultural studies. It offers students a dynamic and internationally oriented setting for studying communication and meaning. It works in close partnership with the Lund Humanities Lab, a unique cross-faculty research infrastructure. The Humanities Lab provides access to state-of-the-art facilities such as eye-tracking, EEG/ERP, articulography, and professional audio studios. MA students gain hands-on experience in experimental design, data collection, and multimodal analysis, supported by researchers with extensive experience in large-scale, externally funded research projects.

LUND UNIVERSITY

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is one of world’s top universities. It offers one of the broadest ranges of programmes and courses in Scandinavia, based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research.

FAU Erlangen–Nürnberg

The Chair of Big-Data Linguistics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg specializes in the analysis of large-scale and multimodal language data using AI and machine learning. This creates an ideal environment for students interested in combining linguistics and data science. Students receive practical training in corpus construction, annotation, computational analysis, and reproducible research workflows. High-performance computing resources are integrated into both teaching and research activities. The chair collaborates closely with the Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center and the Faculty of Computer Science. This work is embedded in European and national research projects and produces research with strong international visibility.

FAU ERLANGEN-NÜRNBERG

Founded in 1743, FAU has a rich history. It is a strong research university with an international perspective and one of the largest universities in Germany. Our values of innovation, diversity and passion are the key to our leading positions in both national and international rankings.
